ISO Class 2 Rating

ISO Class 2 Rating

The Moyers Corners Fire Department is pleased to announce that following the completion of an extensive review by the Insurance Services Office (ISO), the Fire Department was reclassified from a Class 3, to a Class 2 Fire Department starting July 1, 2024. We are now one of a handful of Departments in all of New York State to achieve a Class 2 rating.

ISO classifies departments based on a multitude of factors that include Fire Codes, Emergency 911 Call-taking and Dispatch, Fire Suppression Operations, Training, Manpower, Water Supply, and others. They combine all these factors together and classify a Department from 1 to 10, and generally speaking, the lower the number, the better protected a community is by that department.

Using that data, home and commercial insurance companies use that classification to help determine insurance premiums for property owners.

From ISO’s website: we collect information on municipal fire-protection efforts in communities throughout the United States. In each of those communities, we analyze the relevant data using our Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS). We then assign a Public Protection Classification from 1 to 10. Class 1 generally represents superior property fire protection, and Class 10 indicates that the area’s fire-suppression program doesn’t meet our minimum criteria.

By classifying communities’ ability to suppress fires, we help the communities evaluate their public fire-protection services. The program provides an objective, countrywide standard that helps fire departments in planning and budgeting for facilities, equipment, and training. And by securing lower fire insurance premiums for communities with better public protection, the PPC program provides incentives and rewards for communities that choose to improve their firefighting services.
